US Flag Retirement Ceremony
Excerpt from the US Flag Code - "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."
Contact your local VFW or American Legion
These veteran organizations offer proper flag disposal and retirement ceremonies.
Contact your local or county municipal office
They may have a flag collection program for a disposal ceremony. Many cities are now offering collection boxes so that flags can be retired on Flag Day.
Contact your local Boy Scout, Cub Scout or Girl Scout troop or pack.
These organizations regularly hold proper flag disposal ceremonies. If one is not offered they usually will organize one as a service project.
Never throw a flag away in the trash or recycling.
